Service Description

Welcome to Smart Diehl Academy's Garden Science program for ages 12 to 16! Our Garden Science program is an immersive and hands-on exploration of the science, ecology, and sustainability of gardening. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of garden-based activities and experiments, gaining valuable insights into plant biology, environmental stewardship, and sustainable living practices. In our Garden Science program, participants will: -Study Plant Biology: Participants will learn about the life cycle of plants, from seed germination to flowering and fruiting, as well as the anatomical structures and physiological processes that enable plant growth and development. -Explore Ecology: Participants will explore the interconnections of plants, animals, and microorganisms within the garden ecosystem, learning about food webs, nutrient cycling, pollination, and the role of biodiversity in maintaining ecosystem health. -Practice Sustainable Gardening: Participants will discover sustainable gardening practices such as composting, water conservation, companion planting, and organic pest management, gaining practical skills for creating and maintaining healthy and productive gardens. -Conduct Experiments: Participants will engage in hands-on experiments and investigations to explore scientific concepts related to gardening, such as soil composition, pH levels, photosynthesis, and the effects of environmental factors on plant growth. -Harvest and Cook: Participants will have the opportunity to harvest fresh produce from the garden and explore culinary techniques for preparing and cooking garden-fresh meals. They will learn about the nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables and the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. -Connect with Nature: Our program provides participants with the opportunity to connect with nature and experience the joys of gardening firsthand. Working in the garden promotes physical activity, mindfulness, and a sense of stewardship for the natural world.
