MY STORY
My name is Jayme Diehl, I moved to Charlotte, NC when I was 10 years old. I went to elementary, middle and high school in South Charlotte. I attended East Carolina University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 2014. Go Pirates! During my time at ECU, I served as Music Director and President to East Carolina’s only all female acapella group, The Magnolia Belles. I arranged music and taught the music to my unbelievably talented friends, leading the group to its inaugural album recording in 2013.
I began my career teaching second grade for two years and then became a first-grade teacher where I discovered a true passion for teaching kids how to read. I put a huge emphasis on building positive relationships with students and parents. I treat my students with the same respect that I expect, which I believe is a key to my success in the classroom. Each year, children in my class exceeded their expected growth and had fun doing it!
After my fifth year, I was asked to join my school’s leadership team by becoming an Instructional Coach. In this role I had the honor of coaching kindergarten, first and second grade teachers in order to provide the highest quality education to all of our students. In my third year coaching, I was pregnant with my third child and decided to take some time off to raise my boys.
I chose to tutor in order to have a bit more flexibility and continue doing what I love. This is where I discovered a renewed fire and passion for education! Working directly with students again reminded me why I fell in love with teaching. The challenges and variety that comes with working with different grades levels have me excited about learning new strategies and teaching techniques.
My hope for Smart Diehl Academy is that it becomes a community where we wholly fulfill the academic, social and creative needs of your child with a well rounded and enriching education. Being able to merge my passions for teaching and music is a dream realized and I am overjoyed to open a space where students can discover, explore and love learning!
